How to convey Hillary as a Grandma?

The Atlantic Monthly Magazine ran this article:
Playing the Granny Card -
Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, Angela Merkel, Christine Lagarde: Is a generation of powerful women turning age into an advantage?

Fleece and Fiber Fair in Long Island

Braid braidy braid braid

The wool comes from creatures like these.

Thanks to Adele for this pretty mermaid wool.
Also I bought some new wood knitting needles.
Supposed to give the knitter a "warm" feeling.

So many pretty colors.

More pretty colors, including this gal's hair.

Shawl pins

Countrified!

Knitting group in the tent.

Quilters in the tent.

Even rug making goes on here.

It was a hot day,
but my sister and I had a lovely time.
Lovely.

Crochet is like cooking, while knitting is like baking: You can improvise with crochet, like cooking. If you don't have an onion, use a shallot.  But with baking and knitting you must follow the pattern or recipe EXACTLY. If you don't use an eighth of a cup of baking powder, forget it.  Quite a bit more exacting and rigid than my first love, crochet.

Learning to Purl

Patient, clear and warm, our teacher, Will, schools us on process.
Thanks Will!

Sampler scarf with alternating knit and purl stitches. I can do it!
That purl stitch is a bitch.  Really challenges me. Just need practice.

Learning to Knit!

Yes, I am exploring new ways to love creating with yarn!

Taking a 2-week class at Lion Brand Yarn Studio.  Last week we learned to cast on and knit.  Next week, the purl stitch and casting off.

Here's a photo of our homework.

I have been inspired by some wonderful women.
I set up Adele's website.  Working with photos of this yarn maven's gorgeous yarns created such an itch that needed to be attended to.

And when I saw the simple, beautiful scarf Adele knitted and gave my sister, I thought... I could do that!

Also, over the years, Shellie's beautiful work has mystified me, as if their creation is beyond my understanding and capabilities.  But now I see that one day, I can accomplish such gorgeousity!

My craftastic pal, Betty Chen, is the queen of needle arts. Beader, Quilter, Crocheter and Knitter supreme has created some fiber art that makes me want to be a better person!

In class, I found myself using the "continental" approach to knitting, rather than the "English" style, as taught by our Lion Brand instructor.  Apparently, according to Betty, Continental is easier and faster, and also more natural for a crocheter.  This is where the yarn is held and fed with the left hand, rather than wrapped around the needle with the right hand.

Hopefully in the future, I will have less reason to resort to violence when uninformed people expose their ignorance.
