Crochet is like cooking, while knitting is like baking: You can improvise with crochet, like cooking. If you don't have an onion, use a shallot. But with baking and knitting you must follow the pattern or recipe EXACTLY. If you don't use an eighth of a cup of baking powder, forget it. Quite a bit more exacting and rigid than my first love, crochet.
